Vergne happy to play computer games

January 2015

Ex Torro Rosso driver Jean Eric Vergne says he would rather play computer games than drive an actual racing car. The Frenchman has recently signed for Ferrari as the official player of driving simulators - a job description made up by one of the many new Ferrari managers who have taken the helm recently.

Despite having missed out on the reserve driver role to Esteban Gutierrez, and having missed out on a race seat by talented drivers, Vergne said he would rather sit in a simulator playing computer games than actually travel around the world racing the real thing.

"For me it is a dream come true. To drive for Ferrari is something every racing driver wants to do. I know it’s not really a Ferrari because it’s just some pixels on a screen but for me it is better than driving a real car. When I was a young boy growing up in France, I always wanted to get paid for sitting around all day in my pants playing on the computer. I don’t have to worry about all that traveling nonsense or the other bullshit that comes with being a racing driver. Esteban has to travel to all the races but will never actually drive a car. At least I get to stay at home and play. Also, when I crash, I can just hit the restart button. It’s so much better."
