Don't strike; humour is dead
January 2012
I’d like to know when the people of this world lost their sense of humour. I’m sure people used to be able to take a joke and were able to have a laugh at their own expense or at the expense of others. However, we now seem to live in a world where we can’t say anything without the risk of insulting some ethnic minority or some do-gooder taking offence and demanding loins on silver platters. This is very evident in the world of sport. Apart from football players who can’t string a sentence together and are consequently incoherent, all sports people have to be very careful about what they say. They have to make sure they thank all the right people and namedrop as many of their sponsors as possible. They have to be very diplomatic and aren’t allowed to say how they really feel in case it upsets one of their investors or fans. Gone are the days of flamboyant showbiz types who spoke their mind, were proud of their playboy lifestyle and were actually human rather than characterless robots.
The virus that is political correctness has infected the world of television and show business to a point where censors rule the airwaves and programmes are more to do with what these morons decide is best for us rather than what the general public actually wants to see or hear. The presenters are all brainwashed Cyborgs who have a producer giving them instructions in their earpiece. There are very few people around who are brave enough to break free from the constraints of broadcasting. Fortunately there are still a few brave souls who aren’t afraid to voice their opinions and upset the humourless morons of the world.
The most notorious culprit is Jeremy Clarkson. He is one of the few people left in the world who isn’t afraid to speak his mind. He shouldn’t be criticised for voicing his opinions; he should be commended. It never fails to make me laugh when I read headlines involving him and how he has upset all and sundry and calls for him to be sacked are being voiced by Mr. and Mrs. Idiot whose opinions are all based on what they read in the Daily Mail.
Anyone who has watched a programme featuring Jeremy Clarkson (and that would be the majority of people in the country) know what he’s like. They know he is outspoken and witty. So why are they surprised when he makes comments that are deemed to be controversial? Why are there so many idiots born without personalities who can't tell that everything he says is tongue-in-cheek?
Look at the trouble he got into when he made a flippant joke about lorry drivers murdering prostitutes. That was quite obviously a joke and not meant to be taken seriously. Everybody knows not all lorry drivers murder prostitutes. Only a small percent actually murder them. He was blamed for a spate of incidents where hooligans were tipping over Reliant Robins after his hilarious episode of Top Gear where he kept rolling one. That episode still makes my cry with laughter almost 2 years later. He got into trouble for saying he would like to tie Peter Mandelson to a van and drive around until he stopped living. Why did he get into trouble for saying that? He was merely exercising his basic right of freedom of speech. He wasn’t actually planning on doing it. Even if he was, so what? Who wouldn’t volunteer to help him? I certainly would. I’d also supply more rope and add Gordon Brown, Ed Miliband, John Prescott and Piers Morgan to the list.
Only last year the sense of humour police swooped in and called for him to be sacked because of comments made on Top Gear about all Mexicans being lazy, feckless, flatulent and overweight who lean against fences asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat.
What everyone fails to remember is that it was Richard Hammond who made those comments. Jeremy Clarkson still took the blame for it. In any case, it’s true isn’t it? Even so-called comedians were up in arms over these apparently racist comments. This in itself underlines the depth of humour that has been lost. When people who make jokes for a living can’t take a joke, you know the world is wrong.
The latest incident involved comments he made on a stupid BBC show where he said he would like to see the public sector strikers taken out and shot in front of their families. Now, that was obviously a figure of speech. Who hasn’t used that phrase when vehemently expressing distaste at a particular individual or group of individuals?
It was when the presenters recoiled and gave an apologetic look at the camera that it became obvious his comments would make the headlines the next day. If they just laughed it off I guarantee that most of the morons who wrote in to complain wouldn’t have bothered. When they make it out to be something worth apologising about, this compels the uptight, humourless and stupid individuals to act on their misguided self-righteousness and complain.
The extraordinary overreaction was emphasised by some idiotic Union officials suggesting he should be reported to the police for inciting violence and one floppy-trousered Union official comparing him to Gaddafi. Oh for heaven’s sake. Inciting violence? The Union officials are the ones who need locking up for inciting stupidity. And comparing him to Gaddafi? How many people has Clarkson actually had killed? That would be none.
People just need to chill out. Not everything that’s said on that magic box in the living room should be taken as fact. Nor should it be taken seriously. In any case, what Mr. Clarkson said was absolutely right. The strikers should be shot. Not only should they be shot but the thousands of people who felt the need to complain should also be shot.
The man speaks for the people. This is why half the country are of the opinion that he should run for Prime Minister. Also, most of what he says is true. That’s why Top Gear was voted the most popular factual show at the British National TV Awards.
