When Bond girls and Bond villains produce offspring…

A review of The Call to Vengeance

Well, the final instalment of this 3 part mini-series reaches its climax and it was well worth the wait. I don’t like to harp on about it because I don’t want people to think that I’ve got some sort of crush on Jude Watson but I think she is brilliant. Aside from a few boring episodes, I have enjoyed all her work and this was yet another masterpiece from her.

This book mainly focuses on Qui-Gon’s inner turmoil after the death of fellow Jedi and wannabe lover Tahl. His anger at her murder has led him down the path to the dark side and Jude Watson does an exceptional job of conveying these feelings in such a short young reader’s novel. We see the strength of Obi-Wan’s character and how the bond between him and Qui-Gon helps to turn Qui-Gon away from the dark side.

Speaking of Bond, my only real complaint about this book was the James Bond-esque attitude of the two villains in telling their enemies everything before leaving them the option to escape and foil their plans. That left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Still, it doesn’t take anything away from what a great read the book was.
