Eddie to leave IMSD Racing

Eddie has announced that he will leave IMSD Racing at the end of the 2007 season. The news comes on the back of a difficult season where the team have struggled for pace and a succession of reliability problems has left results thin on the ground.

“It is very sad. We have enjoyed so much success together over the last few years and we are such a close team, but it has been evident that we’ve been struggling over the last two seasons and this year in particular we have made no progress and, in fact, if anything I think we have gone backwards. I think it’s the right time to move on and it’s definitely right to end it when we still have a fairly good reputation.

“I would like to thank the whole team for an amazing four years. It has been a privilege to race for such a great team. I would especially like to thank Steve, who gave me the opportunity to drive with him in the first place and he was one of the first people in Club100 who took me seriously and realised that I did actually have some talent. I would never have enjoyed championship success without the immense support that he, and the whole team, have shown.”

Eddie insists that this news will not affect the rest of the season.

“We are all going to go to the last three races and do what we always do. I’m personally looking forward to the last three races and I’m sure everybody else is. To be honest, this has been on the cards all season and it’s something that has been hanging over all of our heads for a while. I actually think the fact that it is now out in the open might improve things for the last three races because we will all be more relaxed and I think motivation will actually be higher because we know what the future is now.”

Although nothing definite has been announced for next year yet, Eddie said that there are a number of options open and he will definitely continue in the Premier Championship.

”I can’t say where we will be yet or who we will be driving with but we have started talking to a number of people and there are several options open to us. We might have something sorted next week or we might not sort anything until the end of the season. Who knows?! I’m really quite excited about the prospect of a fresh start and I’m really looking forward to 2008. Obviously I want to concentrate on the last three races this year and our target of a top 10 finish in the championship.”

Despite this announcement, Eddie has not ruled out doing more races with IMSD Racing.

”Like I said we are a great team and we are also good friends. We’re going to keep in touch and I wouldn’t at all be surprised if we get together for a one-off non-championship race of some sort. I’ve already said that if they put an entry in for the Le Mans 24 hour or something like that I’d be up for it.”
