Five years after the Return of the Jedi, the fragile Republic that was born with the defeat of Darth Vader, the Emperor and the infamous Death Star stands threatened from within and without. The dying Empire's most cunning and ruthless warlord - Grand Admiral Thrawn - has taken command of the remnants of the Imperial fleet and launched a massive campaign aimed at the Republic's destruction. With the aid of unimaginable weapons Thrawn plans to overwhelm the New Republic, and impose his iron rule throughout the Galaxy.

Meanwhile, dissension and personal ambition threaten to tear the Republic apart. As Princess Leia - pregnant with Jedi twins - risks her life to bring a proud and lethal alien race into alliance with the Republic, Han and Lando Calrissian race against time to find proof of treason inside the highest Republic Council.

Lord Depravus Says

Generally Good! - 07-Nov-06

Although Timonthy Zahn is widely regarded as the sort of Godfather of the EU, I have to admit I dislike some of the aspects he has bought into the Star Wars universe. I don't like some of the Force abilities he created and I certainly don't like the Force repelling Ysalamiri either. I felt he had made the Force into more of a Superman like super power... complete with cryptonite!

Like with all of Zahn's books, I find the idea of the characters going off on their own little missions and somehow bumping into each other a bit too far fetched. How small is this galaxy?

Despite that, I thought this was a great sequel to Heir to the Empire and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Thrawn is a great character and so is Borssk Fey'lia - I literally want to punch him. It's a great sequel to Heir to the Empire.
