Alzoc III
Alzoc III was a planet in the Outer Rim Territories and home to the Talz species. It was a frigid world located in the Alzoc system, dominated by hard-packed snow covering its frozen plains. Glaring light from its star, Alzoc, and harsh temperatures have left only two species present on the surface, the Talz and the Snow slug.
The planet's most intelligent animals, the Talz were a large, furred species who had evolved high levels of intelligence shortly before the Galactic Empire arrived. Their language consisted of high-pitched chirps called Talz.
The planet was discovered by Galactic Republic scouts 32 BBY, but never officially registered. However, the planet was visited by Jedi scouts. In 18 BBY the Galactic Empire stationed several stormtroopers on the world to be picked up by the Eye of Palpatine, which never arrived.
During the Galactic Civil War, Alzoc III was removed from the Galactic Registry by the Empire in order to protect a perfect source of slaves. As such, it became a major source of slaves for the Empire, which used the Talz to mine the planet. The planet was also a large source of raw materials during the war, and its Alzoc Pearls were widely coveted.
Pter Thanas was the commanding officer of the mining operations on Alzoc III initially, when he determined that the enslaved indigenous Talz workers performed at high rates of output when provided greater food rations. By rearranging his budget, Thanas was able to provide more food to the Talz and triple the mining outputs. The Talz repaid his kindness when they saved Thanas from falling down a mineshaft. When an Imperial colonel arrived six months later to replace Thanas, he immediately returned the Talz’s food rations to their previous levels. This caused a Talz leader to protest the change, and the colonel ordered Thanas to destroy the Talz village as a demonstration of Imperial will. Thanas refused the order and was summarily reassigned to the newly Imperial-controlled Outer Rim Territories planet of Bakura.
The planet was put back into the registry early in the reign of Leia Organa Solo as Chief of State of the New Republic.
The Eye of Palpatine stopped at the planet and, failing to find the stormtroopers it was looking for, took onboard a number of Talz whom it tried (with little success) to brainwash into being stormtroopers.
The Empire Reborn, an Imperial Remnant faction led by the Dark Jedi Hethrir, Imperial Procurator of Justice had an outpost on the planet that was besieged by Kyle Katarn.
