Rye House Report

Rye House hosted the second round of the 2004 championship - a race that looks likely to be Eddie's last in the Lightweight category. Eddie was to take a decision today as to whether he will change category after this race.

The day started on a damp but drying track. Eddie started 9th in his first heat and, in slippery conditions, finished a distant 11th. Lining up last on the grid for race 2, he made up a few places to finish 12th. Pole in heat 3 was Eddie's best chance of a good result but lost out at the start and dropped two places. Eddie was running fifth until a couple of laps from the end when he was touched by another driver and lost a few more places - although he managed to keep the kart together.

These results put Eddie in pole position for the C final. Making a solid start, he managed to hold his lead for a couple of laps but made a small mistake going into the Stadium corner when it started raining again and lost his lead. He managed to maintain his place in the top four to qualify at the back of the grid in the B final.

Starting 28th and last on the grid, Eddie made a good start and made up several places in the oipening laps. By lap 6 he was running eighth and challenging Martin Joyce when the latterdrifted and was collected by Eddie. Eddie would have continued but was himself tagged by the spinning Joyce.

Eddie was philosophical after the race. "It wasn't the best day by any means but I think it was the best I could manage. I simply wasn't quick enough today."

When asked about the incident in the B final, Eddie replied "Well it had been a 'spin free' day up until then, it was too much to ask for not to have some sort of incident. Seriously, though, it was just a simple racing incident. Nobody can be blamed for it. I was lining up Martin to get past and he just drifted over to the right a bit more than I was expecting (probably due to the slippery surface) and I tagged him. We both agreed it was a racing incident and there is no problem."

Eddie is expected to announce his defection to the heavier weight category early this week.
