Eddie sad not to be sprinting

Eddie has admitted that he will miss doing the sprints in 2006 and regrets not being able to compete in a full season. Instead Eddie will be focussing his efforts on the Premier Clubman championship this year and will only compete in 3 of the 11 sprint races.

“I think I’m really going to miss the sprints. The second half of last year really came good and I felt I was finally starting to make some real progress and it’s a real pity that I can’t carry that on next year. If there was any way I could do a full season, I would but unfortunately that’s just not possible.”

In an earlier interview, Eddie said that he very nearly quit the sprints earlier in the season.

“It is quite amazing how quickly things can change in motor racing. After Clay Pigeon, I came so close to packing them (the sprints) in because I was getting so frustrated with being taken out, or getting penalties or just something happening to prevent me from getting a good result. Now, I really don’t want to stop because I am really starting to enjoy them, my confidence is high and I know I could do even better on the strength of last year.”

Eddie has not ruled out a full time return in 2007.

“Obviously if the financial situation changes it would be good to be back. I just have to wait and see what happens. The thing is that I have other financial commitments and I can’t ignore those. I mean I have a mortgage to pay for one! And I’m pretty much getting everything I want out of the sport in the endurance championship.”
